AFRICA/NIGERIA - The Pope creates diocese of Shendam and appoints first Bishop

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 2 June 2007 created the diocese of Shendam (Nigeria), with territory taken from the archdiocese of Jos, making it suffragan of the same archdiocese. The Holy Father appointed Bishop James Naaman Daman, O.S.A., Bishop of Shendam. Until now Bishop Naaman Daman was Bishop of the diocese of Jalingo (Nigeria)
