Libreville (Fides Service)- Today Cardinal Ivan Dias, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples arrives in Gabon where he will take part in celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of a pastoral visit to the country by Pope John Paul II.
During the four day visit the Cardinal has various important engagements: on June 1 he will pay a courtesy visit to Gabon's president Omar Bongo, later he will have a meeting with representatives of the local clergy, men and women religious and active lay Catholics. On Saturday 2 June Cardinal Dias will preside a concelebration of the Eucharist, the central event of a whole Jubilee year dedicated to the memory of John Paul II. On Sunday June 3 the Cardinal will preside Mass to consecrate a new Cathedral at Mouila dedicated to St John the Apostle. Also in Mouila a meeting with the Catholic Bishops of Gabon and the head of state will conclude the Cardinal's visit. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 31/5/2007 righe 16 parole 167)
