ASIA/CAMBODIA - The charisma of Don Bosco over the radio in Cambodia: the local Church is projected towards mission via the media

Monday, 30 April 2007

Phnom Penh (Agenzia Fides) - In Cambodia Don Bosco, his life, work, charisma and spirituality are now 'on the air'. Th aim is to spark curiosity and interest among young Cambodians and engage in mission harnessing the modern means of communications.
According to ANS Salesian newsletter Ans, a radio station in Sihanoukville, recently broadcast the first in a series of 60 minute programmes Don Bosco Sihanoukville Radio (DBS Radio), conducted by Kim Sean, former pupil of Poipet Communications School with the collaboration of Mr King Kroch, director of Don Bosco Technical School in Sihanoukville, in charge of technical training issues and the life of Don Bosco, as well as former Don Bosco schoolboys and local young people.
With impulse from the Federation of Asian Bishops' Conferences FABC the Church in Cambodia is reflecting on how to employ the media and IT as channels of mission. The local Church in its diverse articulation and components is anxious to increase its presence in the media and put these new forum which are part of the new culture and the new millennium at the service of evangelisation. In this direction goes a four language publication in Cambodian, English French and Spanish http://www.catholiccambodia.org, which provides information on events in the dioceses and the local Church in general as well as institutional documents. The aim of the new web site is to make known to as many people as possible the life and the activity of the Catholic community in Cambodia and universally. The different national Catholic communities in Asia are called to help people discern what can be harmful in the media and discover what is good in the media and how they can help Christians live to their faith and hope and to share with others the Good News of God's love.
