EUROPE/FRANCE - Every year 200,000 legal abortions and an unknown number of illegal abortions. National Pro Life March in Paris on Sunday 21 January

Wednesday, 10 January 2007

Rome (Agenzia Fides) - Every year in France the deaths of 220,000 aborted babies are officially registered. Since abortion was legalised in France in 1974 more than 7 million babies have been aborted.
Once again this year the Spanish pro-life Association Provida is organising a pro-life march for Sunday 21 January in Paris. Previous marches organised in 2005 and 2006 drew large crowds of participants and the organisers expect good attendance this year too. Participants will come from all over France as well as Spain, Germany and Belgium.
The practice and high number of abortions have all kinds of negative consequences including aging population, closing of crèches and schools, besides the problem of increasing pensions. Serious are also the psychological effects after an abortion, the high percentage of suicides among women after an abortion, family degradation. Moreover many women die after an abortion practiced illegally of which there exists no official registration.
Provida is an NGO of voluntary work formed in Barcelona to promote respect for human life from conception to natural death, fostering a culture of concern for the weakest and most defenceless of human persons. (AP) (10/1/2007 Agenzia Fides; Righe:22; Parole:253)
