Friday, 15 December 2006

Port Moresby (Agenzia Fides) - Catholics in Papua New Guinea have intensified prayer and charitable works in the Season of Advent. In the parishes, often run by missionary congregations, priests, religious and laity gather for special prayers in preparation for Christmas and intensify works of charity for the communities of the poorest villages in remote rainforests.
The Congregations which have intensified pastoral activity the Salesian Family recently gathered in Port Moresby for a meeting with the Fathers, women religious Daughters of Mary Help of Christians, members of the Association of Mary Help of Christians, and lay co-operators and former pupils. In prayer and Lectio divina, the community lived a moment of reflection and celebrated the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
The local Church has always lived Christmas in contact with the poor and the marginalised, organising special Masses and charity initiatives in prisons, social centres, hospitals, orphanages and wherever people suffer in body or spirit. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 15/12/2006 righe 23 parole 234)
