Taipei (Agenzia Fides) -“Thirty years of sowing and watering have allowed Radio Veritas Chinese section in Taiwan to collect flowers and fruits of evangelisation. Let us ask the Lord to continue to guide our work of evangelising over the radio”. This was said by Radio Veritas Taiwan delegate administrator Bishop Philip Huang of the diocese of Hua Lien, during celebrations on 17 September to mark 30 years of service of Radio Veritas Chinese Section in Taiwan. According to Kao Hsiung diocesan bulletin ShanTao Catholic Weekly, media operators, journalists, radio speakers and many listeners gathered to reflect on 30 years of experience and service. For the occasion the Radio gave a preview of a new Holy Land DVD on Jesus’ life in Bethlehem, Galilee and Jerusalem and baptism at the River Jordan...
One moving part of the celebrations was the reading of letters from listeners, mostly from mainland China. One young man writing from the north east Chinese province of Liao Ning said he was paralysed and confined to a wheelchair after a road accident: “I had lost all hope and will to live. But listening to your radio I gradually rediscovered confidence in myself and in life”. Parishioners from Xi Guang Wo Yang district, An Hui province wrote: “we live in an isolated area and there are no priests. The community was almost paralysed but your radio programmes consolidated our faith”. Jesuit Fr. Matteo Chu, condemned to 27 years of forced labour said: “in those difficult years your radio always accompanied me. Thanks to you our flock without a shepherd found again the voice of the universal Church and the Pope. You gave us encouragement and support in the faith”.
