AFRICA/UGANDA - The Pope appoints auxiliary Bishop of the archdiocese of Gulu

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI on 22 July 2006 appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the archdiocese of Gulu (Uganda) Reverend Sabino Odoki, until now rector of the National Major Seminary in Alokolum, Gulu, assigning to him the titular see of Sabrata.
Rev. Sabino Odoki was born on 8 August 1957 in the Gulu suburb of Layibi. He was educated in his home country where he also trained for the priesthood and was ordained a priest on 10 September 1983. Since then he has served as follows: 1983-1985: pastoral work in Kitgum; 1985-1992: studies at the Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) obtaining a doctorate in theology; 1992-1997: he opened St. Maurice Pastoral Centre in Gulu with the financial help of friends in Germany. At present the project is a quasi-parish and includes a primary school. Since 1997 he has been Rector and also a teacher at Alokolum Major Seminary. (S.L.)
