Manila (Agenzia Fides) - Catholic Radio Veritas Philippines now uses satellite thanks to Catholic Media Network which broadcasts weekly religious and educational programmes. Radio Veritas broadcasts from Manila. The diffusion zone of Dream Satellite covers much of Asia, the Middle East and North America. The secretary of the Philippines Bishops’ commission for the media, Jamer Reuter, says this is a step forward for evangelisation and opens to way to creating a Catholic satellite TV which could be built in cooperation among the Churches in Asia.
Radio Veritas is essential in the Philippines as in the other countries. It is a resource for spreading the Gospel, a point of reference for Catholics and also greatly appreciated by listeners of other beliefs. The Catholic Bishops of the Philippines often use Radio Veritas to speak to the country at important moments.
Besides Radio Veritas Philippines there is also Radio Veritas Asia which broadcasts for a range of 6.000 km, 17 languages, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Urdu, Hindi, Indonesian, Russian and Hmong.
Radio Veritas has broadcast in Bangladeshi for 25 years and its programmes are important, a source of hope and encouragement, for Catholics in Bangladesh who live, like the majority of the people in that country, in extreme poverty.
Radio Veritas also broadcasts in Hmong for Catholics in Laos living in remote areas. They listen to the Gospel readings and join the recitation of the Rosary via the radio. Radio Veritas in Hmong is guaranteed by Fr. Daniel Taillez, an Oblate Missionary of Mary Immaculate. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 19/7/2006 righe 28 parole 281)
