Vatican City (Fides News Agency) – “One in Christ. United in Mission” is the theme chosen by Pope Leo XIV for this year’s World Mission Sunday. It is also the guiding theme of the online missionary formation programs being offered throughout the year in different languages by the International Secretariat of the Pontifical Missionary Union (PUM), in collaboration with the National Directions of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS).
Pope Leo XIV’s Message for World Mission Sunday is at the heart of the webinar series currently being held in French (see Fides, 9/7/2026) and English (see Fides, 14/7/2026).
The Vietnamese-language program will begin on Saturday, August 8.
Organized through the joint efforts of the International Secretariat of the PUM and the Vietnamese National Direction of the PMS, the three-session course is intended for Vietnamese Catholics throughout the world, with particular attention to those living in Europe and the Americas.
The first session, lasting approximately two hours and including time for participants’ questions at the end, will take place on August 8 at 5:00 p.m. (Rome time). The second is scheduled for August 22 at 2:00 p.m. (Rome time), while the final session will be held on September 5 at 10:00 a.m. (Rome time).
“Pope Leo XIV’s Message for World Mission Sunday 2026 reflects an extraordinary convergence of personal, ecclesial and historical dimensions. It is rooted in the Pope’s own missionary experience, fully consistent with his Magisterium, and illuminated by a series of anniversaries that invite us to re-read the past in order to better shape the future,” said Fr. Dinh Anh Nhue Nguyen, OFM Conv., Secretary General of the Pontifical Missionary Union.
“This Message,” he added, “is a clear call to the Church to rediscover her missionary nature, not as one activity among many, but as her deepest identity. It invites every baptized person to recognize themselves as one who is sent, every community to become missionary, and the whole Church to move forward with confidence into this ‘new missionary era’.”
