Vatican City (Fides News Agency) – On April 27, 2026, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization (Section for First Evangelization and New Particular Churches), appointed Father Alfredo Macheleta of the Diocese of Kabwe, as Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Zambia for a five-year term (2026-2031).
The new director was ordained a priest in 2014.
He studied in Rome, first at the Pontifical Antonianum University (degree in philosophy, 2009), then at the Pontifical Urbaniana University (degree in sacred theology, 2014). He subsequently obtained a degree in accounting and finance from Mulungushi-Kabwe University in 2019 and a Master of Science in accounting and finance in 2021. At the pastoral level, he served as assistant priest (2014-2016), then as parish priest in the parish of St. Joseph (2016-2020), and simultaneously as vice general treasurer for the diocese of Kabwe, where he supervised projects for the diocese as project director from 2017 to 2020. He was also the financial administrator of the Major Seminary of St. Augustine (2018) and financial treasurer for the National Office of AZADCC (Association of Zambia Diocesan Catholic Clergy) from 2022 until today.
He was also the management accountant for the Diocese and diocesan director of the PMS in Kabwe. From 2024 to today, he has also been administrator of the parish of St. Monica. (EG) (Fides News Agency, 25/5/2026)
