AMERICA/ARGENTINA - Posadas prepares for the Diocesan 50th Jubilee

Wednesday, 28 June 2006

Posadas (Agenzia Fides) - “Towards an open and evangelising Church” is the title of a pastoral letter issued by Bishop Juan Rubén Martínez, of the diocese of Posadas, as part of preparations for a Jubilee Year to mark the 50th anniversary of the diocese, in which he urges the faithful to prepare for the diocesan Synod in 2007 with the conviction of being "an open Church", a dimension rooted in the people of Israel in the Old Testament open to pagan peoples. In the letter the Bishop recalls that " from the beginning the Church has always been missionary towards the gentiles and Saint Paul called himself the ‘apostle of the nations'. This is therefore, according to the bishop, an essential trait: “a Church which fully understands its identity and is open" and he urges the faithful to integrate this trait in spirituality with an evangelising style .
In 2007 the Church in Posadas will hold its 1st Diocesan Synod to "reflect on God’s will for the Church and diocese of Posadas today". The Synod has three stages: 2006 final preparation. On 19 June, on the occasion of a Diocesan Meeting the Synod Working paper was presented to priests, deacons, religious and laity, delegates from parishes, schools, movements commissions. The Synod assemblies will take place in six weekend sessions from Pentecost to October 2007. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 28/6/2006, righe 19, parole 279)
