Javier (Agenzia Fides) - From 20 -22 June in Javier in the framework of the 5th centenary of the birth of Saint Francis Xavier there will be the National Days for Diocesan Missions Delegates and Diocesan Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) Meeting organised by the Spanish Bishops’ Commission for Mission and Cooperation among Churches and the PMS.
The Meeting will start on 20 June with an address by Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, former Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, recently appointed Archbishop of Naples. This will be followed by a presentation of the Days by Bishop Ramón del Hoyo, president Spanish Bishops’ Commission for Mission and Cooperation among Churches and Archbishop Francisco Pérez, military ordinary and PMS National Director in Spain. Reflection during the Days will focus on the following conferences: "Mission ad gentes and the Church today" Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe; "Saint Francis Xavier today" Fr. Carlos Collantes, Javerian Missionary; “Mission Sunday 2006: Saint Francis Xavier witness and teacher of mission" Archbishop Fernando Sebastián of Pamplona. Masses will be presided by Cardinal Sepe June 20, Bishop Camilo Lorenzo Iglesias of Astorga on June 21, and Bishop. Amadeo Rodríguez Bishop of Plasencia on June 22. During the Days Fr. Ricardo Sada, SJ, rector of the Shrine of Javier, will illustrate celebrations for the 5th Centenary, and Fr. Ángel Echauri, Pamplona Diocesan Missions Delegate will speak about the Church in Navarra. Fr Joseph Doan SJ, a missionary from Vietnam and Sr Pilar Acerete, a missionary in India, will share their experience. There will also be a presentation of the new PMS Statute and Handbook and the Action Plan of the Bishops’ Commission for Missions by the Bishops’ Delegate for Missions and the PMS diocesan Director.
