AFRICA/TOGO - In Lome a Parish Social Forum, the first of its kind, tackles problems of work and development

Lome (Agenzia Fides) - The parish of Notre Dame de la Rédemption at Bè-Klikamé in the archdiocese of Lome has just held a Parish Social Forum for young Catholics.
The theme of the Forum, the first of its kind, was “Young Catholics and solidarity, work and development”.
According to a member of the organising committee the purpose of the Forum was to restore hope among young people and encourage them to have a spirit of solidarity and creativity in the parish community. The Forum was attended by 120 participants, parish representatives, students, apprentice workers, young people with various school diplomas, state workers, businessmen, people without jobs
The first conference was given by parish priest Fr Sébastien Boccovi, on the theme “Young Catholics and the spirit of solidarity”. Agro-economist engineer Cyrille Goeh-Akue, shared his experience as a development agent with a talk on the theme “How young people can face the challenges of work and development”.
The third conference was given by the general directress of the Regional Solidarity Bank- Togo (BRS) Meyekiya Kambia who spoke about the mission, objectives and specificity of BRS-Togo.
Among the participants was a representative of Catholic Relief Services (Caritas USA) who said the young people should use their creativity and inventive to create jobs since the institutions fail to offer work. (AP) (31/5/2006 Agenzia Fides; Righe:24; Parole:251
