Manama (Agenzia Fides) - Every year on March 3, the Sacred Heart Church in Manama celebrates the day of its consecration with a solemn ceremony in which all the parishioners take part. And again this year, on the LXXXIV anniversary of the official consecration, the day was a significant milestone that underlined the importance of faith, community and devotion of the Church. The entire Catholic community of the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia joyfully took part in the celebratory service on this occasion.

Prayers for the work of the parish community, its future growth and the spiritual well-being of all those attending service, as well as hymns and blessings, were the focus of the celebratory service, which was presided over by Vicar Apostolic Aldo Berardi, O.SS.T.

"The theological aspect of the church consecration is that we are the true Body of Christ, and the spiritual aspect is that we grow in relationship with God", Bishop Berardi said in his homily. Prayers were offered during the celebration.

For the entire Church of the Apostolic Vicariate of Northern Arabia, the anniversary marks a new chapter in the life of the Sacred Heart Parish, which provides a sacred space for worship, prayer and communion for future generations.

The Sacred Heart Church is the first church in Bahrain, where the first Christian community met in 1938. On June 9, 1939, the foundation stone was laid on land provided by the then ruler of Bahrain, Shaikh Haman Bin Isa Al Khalifa, and it was officially inaugurated on March 3, 1940. There are currently 150,000 Catholics in Bahrain out of a population of 1,500,000. (AP) (Agenzia Fides, 12/3/2024)
