EUROPE/SPAIN - Confirmation of the Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies, José María Calderón Castro

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 19, 2023, Cardinal Luis Antonio G. Tagle, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, confirmed for a another five years the Reverend Father José María Calderón Castro as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Spain.
FatherJosé María Calderón was born in Madrid in 1963. Ordained a priest in 1989, he exercised his priestly ministry in several parishes in the diocese of Madrid. He graduated in Theology with a specialization in moral theology - and among the many positions held we remember that of diocesan advisor of Catholic Action, diocesan advisor of Manos Unidas and, since 2007, episcopal delegate for missions and diocesan director of the PMS in Madrid. Very close to the missionary world, he has worked with the Missionaries of Charity as chaplain and confessor, and since 2023 as international coordinator of the Corpus Christi Movement, founded by Mother Teresa of Calcutta for diocesan priests. He has had summer missionary experiences with youth in countries such as Ethiopia, Cuba, Sierra Leone, Romania, Ghana and Mozambique. In 2020 he was appointed a member of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples to represent the national directors of the PMS around the world and, since 2022, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of Domus Missionalis.
