ASIA/INDIA - Resignation and appointment of bishop of Kumbakonam,

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Kumbakonam, India, presented by Bishop Antonisamy Francis.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Jeevanandam Amalanathan, until now vicar general of the diocese of Kumbakonam, India, as bishop of the same diocese.
Msgr. Jeevanandam Amalanathan was born on 2 April 1963 in Michaelpatti. He studied at the Sacred Heart Minor Seminary in Kumbakonam, and the Sacred Heart Major Seminary in Poonamallee, Chennai. He was awarded a doctorate in pastoral theology from the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome.
He was ordained a priest on 6 May 1990 for the clergy of Kumbakonam.
He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest on Ammanpet (1990-1991); prefect of the minor seminary (1991-1992); parish priest in Fatimapuram (1992-1993) and Kabisthalam (1993-1998); professor at the Sacred Heart Major Seminary, Chennai (1998-2002 and 2008-2014); rector and parish priest of the Basilica of Poondi (2015-2016); since 2016, he has served as vicar general of Kumbakonam.
