ASIA/INDIA - Resignation and appointment of bishop of Nashik

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 30, 2023, the Holy Father accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Nashik, India, presented by Bishop Lourdnada Daniel.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Barthol Barretto, until now auxiliary of the archdiocese of Bombay, as bishop of Nashik, India, at the same time relieving him of the titular see of Strongoli.
Bishop Barthol Barretto was born in Mumbai on 16 September 1961. He was ordained a priest on 8 April 1989, and was elected to the titular see of Strongoli and the office of auxiliary bishop of Bombay on 20 December 2016, receiving episcopal consecration on 28 January 2017. He is currently secretary of the Regional Council, responsible for Social Communications and the Charismatic Movement. (EG) (Agenzia Fides, 30/12/2023)
