Bucharest (Agenzia Fides) - Three days to celebrate the National Day of the Pontifical Society of Missionary Childhood, in the broader context of the 180th anniversary of the foundation of the Society by Msgr. Charles de Forbin-Janson. Children and adolescents took part in several days of formation and missionary animation, beginning with a National Symposium which opened the celebration. The Symposium, which took place in virtual mode, was an opportunity for the members of the Holy Childhood of Romania to share their missionary experience with the children and adolescents welcomed by the Romanian Catholic parish of Turbi in Kenya, a mission under the jurisdiction of the Catholic Archdiocese of Bucharest.
On May 19, on the occasion of the anniversary of the foundation of the Pontifical Society of the Holy Childhood, the Symposium continued in Târnăveni, in the district of Mures, in the presence of Roma children and adolescents and missionaries from Cetatea de Baltă, accompanied by their parish priest.
Testimonies, songs and prayers marked this intense moment, during which many people present expressed their intention to join Missionary Childhood.
Missionary Childhood Day, celebrated in Romania on the third Saturday of May, was celebrated on Saturday May 20 in the Greek-Catholic parish "Assumption of the Blessed Virgin" of Târnăveni, as well as in other places for those who were unable to travel, especially in Bucharest and Băile Borșa. The theme proposed by the National Direction of the Romanian Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) for the celebration of the National Day ("With adent hearts we form communion and with Jesus we go on a mission") wanted to combine the proposal of the International Secretariat and the message of the Holy Father for World Mission Day "Burning hearts, eyes that see, feet that walk" (Lk 24:13-35).
The day began with the celebration of the Eucharist, which was attended by 200 children and adolescents, dressed in traditional clothes, who came on pilgrimage to the "Victoria" cultural center, where the Holy Mass was celebrated. In the afternoon, after the recreational activities, a folklore show took place in the presence of the Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Alba-Iulia and Făgăraș, Cristian Crisan, at the end of which the Bishop expressed words of encouragement to continue this work of evangelization, and received from the director of the Romanian PMS, Father Eugene Blaj, the first issue of the magazine of the Pontifical Missionary Childhood - "With Jesus on a mission".
