ASIA/HONG KONG - Sports event to collect money to enable young people from less developed countries take part in Asian Youth Day

Hong Kong (Fides Service) - Twenty four Hong Kong parish sports teams took part in a sports event Sports Charity Day at Wan Zai sports ground organised by the Preparatory Committee for the 4th Asian Youth Day. According to the diocesan bulletin Kong Ko Bao the funds will help young people from less developed countries take part in the Asian Youth Day. All 24 teams took part in the races. Team members included 14 priests. The youngest athlete a 12 year old girl from St Joseph’s parish took part in the relay race with a heavy cross. Holy Cross parish won the race, St Jude’s and St Matthew were second and third. The best athlete priest was Joseph Chan Wing Chiu who won two gold medals. The 4th Asian Youth Day, AYD will be held in Hong Kong this year 30 July to 5 August on the theme “Hope for Asia Families”. AYD preparations are almost finished and specific themes have been chosen for events and activities including workshop, seminars, spectacles, exhibitions, inter-religious and inter-culture dialogue.
