ASIA/VIETNAM - Appointment of Bishop of Nha Trang

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On May 1, 2023, the Holy Father Francis appointed the Reverend Joseph Huynh Van Sy, of the clergy of Quy Nhon, until now judicial vicar and rector of the Saint Joseph Seminary of Quy Nhon, as bishop of the diocese of Nha Trang, Viêt Nam.
Msgr. Joseph Huynh Van Sy was born on 10 January in Go Thi, Binh Dinh, in the diocese of Quy Nhon. He studied philosophy and theology at the Stella Maris (Sao Bien) Major Seminary of Nha Trang and was ordained a priest on 12 May 1999, for the diocese of Quy Nhon.
After ordination, he first served in the bishopric of Quy Nhon (1999-2001). He was awarded a doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Urbanian University, Rome (2001-2006) and went on to hold the offices of secretary to the bishop of Quy Nhon (2006-2009); since 2009, judicial vicar and rector of Saint Joseph’s Seminary in the diocese of Quy Nhon, member of the Presbyteral Council, the Council of Consultors and the Committee for the ongoing formation of priests, and teacher in the major seminary of Nha Trang.
