ASIA/INDIA - Resignation and appointment of bishop of Jaipur

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On April 22, 2023, the Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Jaipur, India, presented by Bishop Oswald Lewis.
The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Joseph Kallarackal, of the clergy of Ajmer, until now parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Ajmer, as bishop of Jaipur, India.
Msgr. Joseph Kallarackal was born on 10 December 1964 in Anavilsam, Kerala. He studied philosophy and theology at Saint Joseph’s Regional Seminary in Allahabad and obtained a Master of Arts in political sciences from Maharshi Dayanand Saraswati University in Ajmer.
He was ordained a priest on 2 May 1997 for the clergy ofAjmer.
After ordination, he first served as vice-rector (1997-2000) and rector (2007-2013 and 2016-2021) of the Saint Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Ajmer, and parish priest and director of Saint Anselm’s School, Nagaur (2000-2003). He studied for a Bachelor of Education at Goa Vidyaprasarak Mandal’s College (2003-2004). He went on to serve as parish priest of Saint Theresa’s Church, Jodhpur (2004-2007), parish priest and director of Saint Paul’s School, Falna (2013-2015), parish priest and director of Saint Paul’s School, Pali (2015-2016), and, since 2021, parish priest of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Ajmer.
