Matagalpa (Agenzia Fides) - "Social, matrimonial and community humility and the culture of respect are important, respect for differences, forgiveness is also important... Christ from the cross teaches us forgiveness": underlined Monsignor Rolando Álvarez, Bishop of the Diocese of Matagalpa, in the homily for the Mass on the VII Sunday of Easter, celebrated in the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, Sunday, May 29.
At the beginning of the liturgical act, the Bishop thanked for the prayers and affection of the faithful (see Fides, 23 and 24/5/2022) and offered Mass for media operators on the occasion of World Day of Social Communications.
Bishop Álvarez insisted in his homily on the "need to forgive in order not to have debts with anyone and if there are debts, let it be the debt of love and forgiveness of God who teaches on the Cross: 'Father forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing'. If we stick to this, we will experience the unity that Christ asks of us today, we will experience it in family life, in marriage, in Nicaragua and in the Church". Then, commenting on the prayer of Jesus in the Gospel of the day, praying for unity, he said: "Jesus Christ came so that there would be only one shepherd... Unity is vital in the mystery of Jesus, he came to die to unite his children who were scattered, Jesus came to establish unity... The consequences of division are wars, hatreds, conflicts of all kinds between one another. Let us remember the words of Pope Paul Vl: 'For the Church, no one is far away, no one is excluded'." "Just as love must reign in the family, so it must be in Nicaragua - underlined the Bishop of Matagalpa - no one should have more rights than others because we are all one in Christ Jesus. The only way for a family, for a society to grow is the culture of encounter, of reunion, in which everyone has something good to offer as a contribution… Only in this way will we go forward", he concluded.
