Ouagadougou (Agenzia Fides) - "This Jubilee celebration is also an invitation for us to be true witnesses of the Gospel and of God's grace, following our vocation and living the charism of the Congregation", writes Father Marc Toguyeni, Redemptorist missionary (CSSR) on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding and presence of the Congregation in West Africa.
"On January 8, 2022, Mgr. Léopold Médard Ouedraogo, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou, presided over the closing Mass of the Jubilee Year in the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help of Kossodo, Archdiocese of Ouagadougou. The inaugural celebration took place in the various places of our mission", explains Fr. Marc. These are Garbado, Niamey, Niger, Fada N'Gourma, Burkina Faso, Tiébissou, Ivory Coast, Bérécingou, Benin.
During the celebrations, six Brothers were ordained deacons, including four Redemptorists and two Religious of St Vincent de Paul.
"May the Lord strengthen our hope and give us the strength to zealously pursue the mission of salvation in ever greater solidarity with the wounded world", concluded the missionary, addressing all Redemptorists.
On May 28, 1946, the Sacred Congregation of Propaganda Fide was officially authorized with a rescript to send Redemptorist missionaries to participate in the work of evangelization in the Sahara. Following the rescript, Fr. Constant Quillard, along with five other confreres, embarked for French West Africa and founded the Redemptorist mission in this territory.
