EUROPE/ITALY - Fr. Pierluigi Maccalli invites us to support the proclamation of the Gospel in Africa for a Christmas of peace and forgiveness

Crema (Agenzia Fides) - "I renew my gratitude to all, with all my heart, for the prayers with which you accompanied me during the two long years of kidnapping, and for the affection with which you have embraced me in this year of rediscovered freedom". This is what Father Pierluigi Maccalli, priest of the Society for African Missions (SMA), writes in his Christmas message.
The missionary, imprisoned in the Sahel at the hands of the Jiadists (see Fides, 18/9/2018) since his liberation has continued his mission, taking his experience of the Gospel to Europe and Italy. "Let us continue to support the proclamation of the Gospel in Africa and especially in the Sahel, where violence and terrorism reign today", this is the invitation that he addresses to all those who have followed and supported him with prayer. "May Christmas bring peace and forgiveness to wounded hearts." "A souvenir photo of me inhabited many of your homes - he explains - and I was told that I have also found a place in some nativity scenes like a lost sheep of the Sahel! Today I sit on the shoulders of the Good Shepherd who returns joyfully to the fold: thank you for welcoming me into your homes. Your hug has warmed my sad heart due to so much loneliness. Thank you for your friendship and closeness to all the missionaries in the peripheries of the world". (GM/AP) (Agenzia Fides, 13/12/2021)
