AFRICA/CONGO - Resignation of the Bishop of Ouesso and appointment

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On December 8, 2021 the Holy Father Francis accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Ouesso (Republic of Congo), presented by His Exc. Mgr. Yves-Marie Monot, C.S.Sp.. The Holy Father appointed Rev. Gélase Armel Kema, of the clergy of Ouesso, currently National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the Republic of Congo.
Mgr. Gélase Armel Kema, was born on October 26, 1972 in Ouesso. After attending the Makoua Minor Seminary, he completed his philosophical and theological studies at the Theological Institute in Montreal, Canada. He was ordained a priest on August 29, 1999.
Since his ordination he has held the following positions: Parish Vicar (1999-2000) and Parish Priest of St Joseph Ouvrier of Mokéko (2000-2002); Rector of the Preparatory Seminary of Ouesso (2002-2003); Vicar General of the Diocese (2002-2003); Parish priest of the Sacré-Coeur de Jésus in Sembé (2003-2007); Licentiate and Doctorate in Canon Law at the Pontifical Urbaniana University, Rome (2007-2010), Pastoral Ministry in Collesalvetti, Diocese of Livorno (2010-2013). Since 2014 he has been Professor of Canon Law in Cardinal Emile Biayenda Major Seminary of Theology and from 2018 until now National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the Republic of Congo.
