Bogota (Agenzia Fides) - On Sunday, September 5 the celebration of the annual "Week for Peace" begins in Colombia, which this year has the motto "Truth that we can". The Director of the National Secretariat for Social Pastoral Care (SNPS), Monsignor Héctor Fabio Henao Gaviria, underlines in the note sent to Fides that it is "a great moment as a community, to talk, listen and discuss common issues that affect the construction of peace in the country".
Commenting on the theme of the Week, Monsignor Henao Gaviria explains: "We are bringing together many institutions at all levels of society, academia, schools, neighborhoods, parishes, that is, all social sectors, to reflect on what kind of truth we want, what kind of truth can help us today in the country to grow in solidarity, in reconciliation and in the capacity for encounter". Monsignor Henao Gaviria observes that the truth has great strength and enormous healing power. He also recalled the pain of so many people who have historically had to endure the suffering caused by the violation of their rights. This Week for Peace "invites us, from all horizons of society, to open ourselves to the truth and to build it collectively". The motto of the Week encourages citizens to take a leading role in building a culture for peace, and by also mentioning the word “truth” enhances its value in moving towards peace.
Numerous activities will take place during this week, in order to highlight the work of many people and communities who work daily in their territories for peace. The Week for Peace is celebrated in Colombia between September 5 and 12, 2021, as usual in September, Month of Peace, thanks to the commitment of several organizations, including the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Red Pro de Paz, Justicia Especial para la Paz. The National Secretariat for Social Pastoral Care - Caritas Colombia integrates this collaborative work, contributing from each of the tasks of service to truth and reconciliation. The organizers have also developed material for the media in order to disseminate the initiatives and elicit the participation of all. (SL) (Agenzia Fides, 3/9/2021)
