Beijing (Fides Service) - Thanks to a group of city Catholics in Beijing poor country children in Shan Xi province can now go to school.: “We do not have a lot to give, our contribution is small, a drop in the ocean, almost invisible but it is enough to send to school a poor boy whose family is too poor to pay the fees and this is wonderful” a representative of the group said on returning from a visit to the rural Xin Zhou parish where the children live in the province of Shan Xi.
Working with the parish priest at Xin Zhou Fr Hou Ying Rong the lay group started a Work of Love initiative to provide help for poor families and especially to pay school fees. At the moment 19 children attend the local school thanks to the generosity of Catholics in the capital. While in Xin Zhou the members of the group from Beijing visited 6 poor families in 4 different villages, distributing food and clothing and taking photographs and video film. “We will show the video in the parish to encourage more people to join our action of solidarity and love, our Work of Love action as we have been urged by Pope Benedict XVI”, said another member of the group.
