Taipei (Fides Service) - Also Taiwan’s Chinese Catholics are deeply devoted to St Joseph the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus Christ to whom they dedicate the month of March. This year there is special rejoicing for the opening of two churches dedicated to St Joseph: a new church in the diocese of Kaohsiung and a restructured church in the diocese of Taichung.
On 26 February Cardinal Paul Shan presided consecration of the new St Joseph’s Church in the diocese of the Kaohsiung. Crowds of faithful gathered for the solemn mass. Special preparations are being made in the new church for St Joseph’s Day, March 19th, Sunday this year.
On Saturday 18 March in the diocese of Taichung there will be the reopening of a newly restructured church dedicated to St Joseph. The church was closed for a year for complete refurbishing funded with offerings from the local Catholics. The local Catholics in Taiwan take St Joseph as a model of life. A statement to announce the event states “St Joseph followed the instructions of the Angel sent to him by God and we must follow the guidance of the Church. We pray God will give us the strength to continue on our journey of faith”. (Agenzia Fides 02/03/2006 Righe: 23 Parole: 255)
