AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - National directors of Pontifical Mission Societies in Central America countries: presentation of project for Central American ad gentes Mission Centre and call for every country to have its own National Mission Council

Friday, 24 February 2006

San Salvador (Fides Service) - From 13 to 16 February national directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies and pastoral delegates from six central American countries Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala met in San Salvador (El Salvador).
Each mission commission reported on activity of mission animation and formation in the respective country. PMS national director in Brazil Fr Daniel Lagni, gave a theological-pastoral reflection on the National Mission Council: composition and objectives and the necessity to organise a National Mission Council in every country of central America
The meeting also included a presentation of the project for a Central American ad gentes Mission Centre to be opened in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The Centre will offer formation for clergy, religious and lay people for mission ad gentes. The initiative was a commitment assumed by the Council of central American Bishops’ Conferences at the 2nd American Mission Congress CAM-2 held in Guatemala in November 2003, when all dioceses in Latin America, large and small, promised to collaborate with mission 'ad gentes', giving of their poverty. The director of the Central American ad gentes Mission Centre will be Fr Edgar Orozco from Costa Rica. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 24/2/2006 - righe 18, parole 226)
