Aysén (Agenzia Fides) - In communion with the initiatives promoted all over the world 5 years after the publication of Pope Francis' encyclical "Laudato Sì" on the care of the common home, the Apostolic Vicariate of Aysén in Chile will offer a cycle of programs, through Radio Santa María, from 18 to 23 May, with the title "Laudato Sì Week in Patagonia".
Each day a program will be broadcast animated by the Apostolic Vicar, Mgr. Luis Infanti della Mora, who together with a host will address the ‘Laudato Sì’ with various approaches, making it contemporary in the vision of the faith of Patagonia, to then dialogue with the representatives of the Church and civil society who lead initiatives of defense and promotion for the care of the planet.
"We believe - says the Bishop - that it is important to make the most of the 5 years of this powerful encyclical by Pope Francis to evaluate, look, criticize, propose, from Patagonia, how we continue to treat our planet in the light of this text, which offers us an evangelical gaze to build a new relationship with our wonderful, beautiful and precious planet, which God the Father gives everyone in the same way".
From 16 to 25 May, the Special Episcopal Commission for Integral Ecology and Mining (CEEM) of the National Conference of Brazilian Bishops (CNBB), promotes the "Laudato Sì Week, 5 years: integral ecology and mining". During these days, the Commission will hold daily thematic debates on the encyclical with representatives of the commission, teachers and researchers, members of the National Council of Christian Churches (CONIC), Indigenous Missionary Council (CIMI), Pastoral Land Commission (CPT) and Fisheries Pastoral Commission (CPP).
The Bishop of Caxias and President of CEEM, Sebastião Lima Duarte, and the Bishops who are members of the Commission, will open the "Laudato Sì Week" with prayer in the communities, on May 16 at 6 pm. On May 24, at 8 am, the Archbishop by Belo Horizonte and President of the CNBB, Walmor Oliveira de Azevedo, will preside over the celebration of the Eucharist in the Basilica Nossa Senhora da Piedade, for the five years of Laudato Sì. The closing of the week, May 25, will be in Brumadinho, where the Bishop Auxiliary of Belo Horizonte and member of CEEM, Vicente Ferreira, will preside over the Mass, at 6pm.
On the fifth anniversary of the encyclical Laudato Sì, the Bishop of La Rioja, Argentina, Mgr. Dante Gustavo Braida, sent a letter to the community and to the pastoral groups of the diocese with the title "Time of pandemic, time of opportunity in the light of the Laudato Sì", in which he recalls the encyclical and the celebratory week, from 16 to 24 May. To live this week, Argentines have set up spaces in social networks that will allow them to participate in various initiatives to explore the content of the encyclical.
"We are going through this period of pandemic that has led us to make various changes in our behaviors - writes the Bishop - and allows us to see that other deeper realities must be renewed in society, so that the world in which we live offers opportunities to all its inhabitants to live and grow worthily". "For these transformations to be possible - he continues -, we all need to participate and feel protagonists. It is very illuminating to see how Pope Francis in Laudato Sì anticipated a series of shortcomings or weaknesses in this world that have disastrous consequences for many people, taking away their freedom and damaging their lives, such as consumerism, self-reference, the life at all speed, the emptiness of the heart ... which brings with it violence and mutual destruction, etc. But, at the same time, the Pope tells us that it is possible to change course, that it is possible to start again, encouraging us to look for 'another lifestyle' with other parameters or values ".
