Tuesday, 21 February 2006

Warsaw (Fides Service) - “Missionary cooperation always a fruit of the Pontifical Mission Societies” was the theme of a national meeting for diocesan directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Poland held 20-21 at the house of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Spirit at Sulejówek, Warsaw. Present also head office staff says national PMS director Rev Jan Piotrowski.
The meeting started with the presentation of reports on PMS activity at the diocesan level in 2005. This was followed by a missionary formation conference given by Bishop Henryk Tomasik, auxiliary of Siedlce. The participants also discussed plans for the next five years 2006-2010, identifying the main challenges, methods of action and the translation into Polish of the new PMS Statutes. On Tuesday 21 February Bishop Wiktor Skworc chairman of the Bishops’ commission for mission presided a special Mass for the participants. This was followed by a conference “St Francis Xavier, an example for missionaries” by Fr. Krzysztof Oldakowski SJ. Also present at the meeting heads of mission commissions of male and female religious congregations and delegates for missionary animation.
"We hope the meeting will bear fruit especially since Pope Benedict XVI underlined the urgency of missionary activity during a recent meeting with Polish Bishops on ad limina visit and also in the light of the Holy Father’s teaching in his first encyclical Deus Caritas est - says Fr. Jan Piotrowski. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 21/2/2006, righe 20, parole 254)
