ASIA/CHINA - Group of 70 lay people in Nan Chong diocese receive missionary mandate at the end of special Scripture Course

Nan Chong (Fides Service) - At the end of a Course in Sacred Scripture in the parish of Peng An diocese of Nan Chong, in the south west Si Chun province of China, 70 lay people active in pastoral work in the local Church from the districts of Peng An and Ying Shan, received the missionary mandate from Rev. Chen Gong Ao. At the end of a special Mass the 70 lay men and women took a solemn promise for mission and said they were ready to offer the Good News of the Gospel to those who have yet to hear about Jesus Christ. With their hand on the Bible they promised to keep the Word of God “in their heart” and were given a mandate to go on mission to their family and beyond as the Lord’s leads them.
According to the Guide to the Catholic Church in China (2004) in Nan Chong there are 80,000 Catholics assisted by 15 priests, there are 30 churches and 11 major seminarians. (Agenzia Fides 13/02/2006 Righe: 17 Parole: 166)
