EUROPE/ITALY - January 31 Pontifical Salesian University inaugurates new Don Bosco Library 700.000 volumes for students and general public

Rome (Fides Service) - On the occasion of the feast of Saint John Bosco founder of the Salesians and root of a vast spiritual and educational service for young people, on 31 January a new Don Bosco Library will be inaugurated at the Pontifical Salesian University UPS in Rome. The new Library is the latest initiative in a cultural and formative programme undertaken by UPS in the past 30 years in the field of research and didactic activities of teachers and students coming from more than 100 different countries, and also scholars from other colleges. The new library with about 700,000 volumes will be open to students and to the general public, especially people living near the UPS. The library is a modern and functional structure situated in a five floor building and has an innovative system of research and consultation.
The inauguration will have two stages. In the morning of Tuesday 31 January there will be the presentation of the new Library with an address by the university’s grand chancellor Salesian rector major Rev. Pascual Chávez, followed by a panel discussion with the participation of Prof. Raffaele Farina, prefect of the Vatican Apostolic Library, Prof. Mauro Guerrin Docent in Library Science and president of the Italian Association of Libraries, Prof. Giovanni Solimine Docent in Library Science and Fr Silvano Danieli, director of the Roman Union of Ecclesiastical Libraries. The morning will close with a guided tour of the Library. In the afternoon there will be the inaugural academic act with an address by UPS rector Prof. Mario Toso and a talk by Cardinal Zenon Grocholewski, Prefect of the Congregation for Catholic Education, followed by a concert and the blessing of the Library.
