Filtu (Agenzia Fides) - In the Liben Zone, southern Ethiopia, the One Health Program of the Medical Cooperation Committee (CCM) was launched on 31 August. The two veteranians of the new One Health team have started mapping the area of intervention. According to sources from CCM sent to Fides, the project aims to help improve the living conditions of the population in the area, where groups of displaced persons from neighboring regions are also located. The activities include an integrated multidisciplinary health model, which sees the close connection between human, animal and environmental health. A decisive approach to helping people who, as in this context, live in close contact with livestock and nature.
The mapping is of strategic importance to launch concrete restructuring and construction of the so-called "CRUSH", structures that facilitate the vaccination of herds.
During this first week, the two veterinarians went to work and visited the Animal Health Post in some villages in the Filtu territory to gather a series of technical, structural information, and linked to the health of animals in the area. The working group has focused a lot on the attention of the human relationship with both the professionals they met at the Animal Health Post and with the representatives of local pastoral communities.
