Ankawa (Agenzia Fides) - A march of over 140 km to ask for the gift of peace and the end of all forms of violence will be held during the Holy Week from Ankawa - Erbil suburb to Qaraqosh, a town abandoned by its Christian inhabitants in the summer of 2014, when it was conquered by the jihadi militias of the Islamic State (Daesh). The initiative, supported by the Chaldean Patriarchate, will be attended by at least a hundred people, mostly Iraqi, but also from other Countries. Participants in the march will meet on April 9 in Erbil, where they will take part in the Mass on Palm Sunday. The route of the march will pass through towns and villages in the Nineveh Plain, once inhabited mostly by Christians.
The march for peace wants to witness the hope in the rebirth of towns and villages in the Nineveh Plain, together with the will to overcome all violence - including possible retaliation suffered by the civilian population in the ongoing conflict in Mosul - and start the process of reconciliation within a population torn apart by years of sectarian strife.
