AMERICA/BRAZIL - Fraternity Campaign: "Brazilian ecosystems and defense of life"

Wednesday, 1 March 2017

Brasilia (Agenzia Fides) - "Fraternity: Brazilian ecosystems and defense of life" is the theme of the Fraternity Campaign (CF) 2017, organized every year by the Bishops' Conference of Brazil (CNBB). The "text of the CF 2017" highlights the diversity of each biome, meaning that the complex environmental systems, of vast geographic extent, consist of a set of ecosystems, whose animal and plant communities have achieved, in a specific area of the earth's surface, a relative stability in relation to environmental conditions. The text also highlights the need to create respectful relationships with the life and culture of the peoples who live there, particularly in the light of the Gospel.
The initiative, now in its 54th edition begins today, March 1, Ash Wednesday.
From the text, all the dioceses, parishes and communities of Brazil take cues for organizing training initiatives and action programs to live CF 2017 which has its most important moment in the Lent season.
The CNBB has also raised the alarm regarding the destruction of ecosystems, "symptom of an ecological crisis that requires a deep inner conversion". "When we pray for God's Creation and for the people who live in it, we open ourselves to a new life", said Mgr. Steiner, Secretary General of the CNBB at the presentation of CF 2017, reiterating that every Christian is "both a farmer and guardian of Creation". (CE) (Agenzia Fides, 01/03/2017)
