ASIA/PAKISTAN - New impulse in evangelisation following missionary month in Pakistan

Thursday, 17 November 2005

Lahore (Fides Service) - Despite difficulties and fears after recent episodes of anti-Christian violence in Pakistan mission continues involving more and more people, children and adults. Fr Mario Rodrigues, national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Pakistan speaks with optimism of new impulse for evangelisation, the fruit of initiatives during the missionary month of October.
“The missionary month is important especially for young people. It helps promote a spiritual reawakening the benefits of which will be seen in the future. All through the month of October our young people prayed a daily Rosary asking the Blessed Virgin Mary to protect and help them in their missionary commitment, and to pray especially for mission in Asia. Many young Catholics organised prayers at home involving the whole family.”
World Mission Sunday initiatives in Pakistan consisted mainly in mission animation among school children. In Mahmoodabad there was a special event with testimonials from children who told about their activity as “little missionaries of Christ”. The motto of the day was “Children helping children”, and the aim was to lead Catholic children to realise they can and must help other less fortunate children living in extreme poverty.
Initiatives organised to mark the closing of the missionary month which coincided with the end of the Year of the Eucharist highlighted the deep bond between Eucharist and Mission: mission draws strength and impulse from the Eucharist.
