OCEANIA/MARIANA ISLANDS - Appointment of the Bishop of Chalan Kanoa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 24 June 2016 the Holy Father appointed Rev. Fr. Ryan Jimenez as Bishop of the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa (Saipan), in the Northern Mariana Islands.
The newly-elected Bishop was born on 18 December 1971 in Dumaguete City, Philippines, and entered the San Jose Seminary in Quezon and studied philosophy at Manila University. As a major seminarian for the Diocese of Saipan continued his studies in the United States, at St. Patrick's Seminary and University in Menlo Park, California, earning a Masters in 2003. On 8 December 2003 he was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Chalan Kanoa.
Since his ordination he has served the following pastoral and academic roles: 2003-2007: Assistant priest in Kristo Rai Parish in Garapan, Saipan; 2003-2010: Secretary of the Bishop; 2005-2007: Spiritual Director of the Cursillo Movement; since 2007: Rector of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cathedral; since 2008: President of the Diocesan Commission for the Cultural Heritage of the Church; since 2009: Superintendent of Catholic Schools and Director of the Diocesan Publications Office; 2009-2010: diocesan Chancellor; since 2010: Apostolic Administrator of the same diocese.
