OCEANIA/AUSTRALIA - Birth of a new National Center for Evangelization

Sydney (Agenzia Fides) - The Australian Bishops have set up a new "National Center for Evangelization". As Fides learns by the Communications Office of the Bishops Conference, the announcement was given on June 2 by the Commission for Evangelization. The Centre will bring together the work of the "Catholic Enquiry Centre" and the National Office for Evangelisation.
Archbishop Mark Coleridge, president of the Episcopal Commission for Evangelization, said: "We are trying to give a new configuration, bearing in mind the priority of further developing the work done so far". The Catholic Enquiry Centre was founded in 1959 to meet the needs of all those who wanted to know and understand the Catholic faith through the promotion of courses and activities, aimed at bringing the Gospel to non-believers. It will continue to operate within the new National Center for Evangelization.
The National Office for Evangelization operated and assisted dioceses with resources and training opportunities, promoting the Good News in families, workplaces, parishes, schools and through the media.
With the new institution, "the Catholic Church enters more deeply and deliberately in the synodal path that Pope Francis began with the two Synods about marriage and the family", said Archbishop Coleridge. "The new Center will also help bridge the gap between traditional media and the new opportunities offered by digital media", he concluded. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 06/06/2016)
