AFRICA/SOUTH AFRICA - Appointment of the Auxiliary Bishop of Johannesburg

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 6, 2016, the Holy Father appointed Rev. Duncan Theodore Tsoke, as Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Johannesburg (South Africa). He was assigned the titular see of Orreacelia.
The newly-elected Bishop was born on April 15, 1964, in Daveyton, Archdiocese of Johannesburg.
He studied Philosophy at the Major Seminary of Hammanskraal in Pretoria (1988-1990) and Theology at the St. John Marie Vianney National Major Seminary (1991-1994). He also holds a Diploma in Management of Ecclesiastical Heritage (2010) in Nairobi, Kenya. He was ordained a priest on December 2, 1995, for the Archdiocese of Johannesburg. He has served the following pastoral roles: 1995-1999: Parish Vicar of St. Francis of Assisi in Yeoville, Johannesburg, and in charge of the youth pastoral; 1999-2000: Formator and professor of Spirituality at St. Peter Seminary in Garsfontein, Pretoria; 2000-2009: Episcopal Vicar for Evangelization, Assistant Vicar for the pastoral care of vocations and, at the same time, parish priest of St. Albert in Vosloorus and of the Holy Family in Ponong, Johannesburg (2000-2004), Parish administrator of St. Anthony Pucci (2006-2007); since 2009: Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Johannesburg and Pastor of the Holy Family in Turffontein.
