AMERICA/SAINT VINCENT & THE GRENADINES - Appointment of the Bishop of Kingstown

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On 22 December 2015 the Holy Father appointed Fr. Gerard County C.S.Sp., former Provincial Superior of the PP. Spiritans in Mexico as Bishop of the Diocese of Kingstown (Saint Vincent and the Grenadines).
The newly-elected Bishop was born in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, on 15 December 1960. He attended primary and secondary schools in Woodbrook, in the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, then he worked in the banking sector, holding positions of leadership. He entered the Novitiate of the Holy Ghost Fathers (C.S.Sp.) in Port of Spain, and professed his temporary vows on September 9, 1991. He completed his philosophical and theological studies at the St. John Vianney Regional Seminary in Trinidad and Tobago. He was ordained a priest on 21 January 1996.
After his ordination, he was sent to the Province of PP. Spiritans in Mexico, where he held the following positions: 1996-2009: various offices in his Congregation in Mexico, including those of Treasurer and Director of Pastoral Youth; 2002-2009: Pastor of St. David Roldan Lara in the Diocese of Tampico; 2009-2015; Provincial Superior in Mexico.
