Antofagasta (Agenzia Fides) - In order to analyze the situation of migrants, refugees and victims of human trafficking, the V Meeting of Bishops and Pastoral Operators of Human Mobility in Bolivia, Chile and Peru will be held from October 20 to 22, in Antofagasta, Chile. Peru will be represented by delegates from the dioceses located along the borders with Bolivia and Chile, as well as those responsible for the Pastoral of Human Mobility of the Peruvian Episcopal Conference (CEP).
The note sent to Fides by the CEP informs that other factors have been added to the various problems related to the migratory situation that marks the common border of these three countries in recent years: the phenomenon of dozens of Colombians who seek refuge or political asylum and a large and constant group of Haitians who are in transit towards Chile and Brazil. Also, to a lesser extent, there are groups from Ecuador who for various reasons have reached this area.
The meeting of the Bishops and of Pastoral Operators of Human Mobility of the three countries is held every two years, with the aim to reflect, collect experiences and propose projects for the Pastoral Care of Migrants of the various Bishops' Conferences. The aim is to carry out a pastoral care which takes into consideration the concrete situations of each country, considering the origin, the transit zone and the final destination of migrants, with the aim of strengthening the actions of human and spiritual accompaniment.
