Punta Arenas (Agenzia Fides) - After the complaint registered by the Bishop of the Diocese of Punta Arenas, His Exc. Mgr. Miguel Bernardo Bastres Florence, S.D.B. who had asked for transparency on the agreements between ENAP (Empresa Nacionale of Petroleo) and the Canadian company Methanex, the only company responsible for the distribution of gas in the country (see Fides 29/09/2015), government authorities and ENAP leaders have asked for a meeting with the Bishop to clarify the situation.
Therefore last week the Director of ENAP Francisco Diaz, met with the Bishop to inform him of what ENAP is doing.
According to the statement of ENAP released after the meeting, sent to Fides from a local source, the meeting took place in a relaxed atmosphere. Even José Antonio Ruiz, manager of Hydrocarbons division of the Ministry of Energy, and Rodrigo Bustamante, manager of Production of ENAP Magallanes participated in the meeting.
The managers "reiterated the commitment of ENAP Magallanes for the supply of gas to the region, as well as illustrating the extent of extraction of unconventional gas, and the importance of the agreement signed with Methanex to strengthen ENAP as a permanent and reliable energy supplier".
The Bishop expressed his gratitude for the meeting, asking to continue this dialogue and to maintain active channels of communication with the community. He also thanked for the gesture of attention of the state, that described the current levels of production and expectations that exist with regard to gas reserves in the region.
