Buenos Aires (Agenzia Fides) - “The approval of same sex ‘marriage’ in Spain was a virulent attack on Marriage and the Family which has the characteristics of an epidemic which is swiftly invading Latin America the continent of hope for the Church” said Dr Oscar Botta, President of the Pro-Family Association in Argentina, concerned about the example Spain is giving to other countries. Dr Botta, said legalising same sex unions “is due to a situation of dominant relativism in which absolute or universal values do not exist, people simply may do as they please”.
The situation of the family in Argentina suffers from a progressive demographic decline, said Dr Oscar Botta: “unions increase, marriages diminish, the birth rate continues to drop”, moreover “by giving unions and same sex unions the same status as marriage and a proposed law for artificial procreation, the concept of family is being modified to the detriment of the basic cell of society, it is being polluted and destroyed”.
Dr. Botti said these laws “which attack human life, legalising fertility treatment, cloning, accepting a juridical re-definition of the family, a law in favour of homosexual unions, and possibility of adoption of children aim to make the juridical institution of Patria Potestà”. “New currents of thought are penetrating ‘Catholic’ countries infecting governments and legislators with the virus of self-sufficiency, insubordination and disobedience to Christian traditions which have offered guidance like a shining beacon for 20 centuries ”.
This is why the President of the pro-family association said: “we must firmly and openly oppose legal recognition of unions of homosexuals or equalling these unions to marriage because homosexual activity is not a complementary union able to transmit life and it contradicts the very essence of Christian life as taught by the Gospel”. Real marriage is the union of a man and a woman and human law cannot go against natural law”. Unfortunately in the world today - Dr Botta concluded - “the frontiers between good and evil have disappeared and the only acceptable norm in personal conscience and criteria”.
