Quito (Fides Service) - Camillian Fr Alberto Redaelli Ecuadorian Bishops’ Conference delegate for Health Pastoral and chairman of the Foundation for Palliative Treatment Hospital opened by the Camillian Fathers, sent this message to Fides: “The news that Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger had been elected Pope filled our community with satisfaction and optimism, knowing his heart to be that of a man and shepherd committed to evangelising daily life threatened by a culture of death and indifference to human and Christian values. So the news of the election of Benedict XVI fills us with hope and optimism as we struggle with a serious institutional crisis in our country on the brink of civil war between the authorities and the people. Let us be united in prayer and help one another so faith may illuminate the building of a civilisation of human dignity. May the Holy Father Benedict XVI inspire and guide our people in search of its human and Christian face.” (AP) (22/4/2005 Agenzia Fides; Righe:21; Parole:221)
