Rome (Fides Service) - “We decided to suspend our 10 general chapter to render homage to the Holy Father John Paul II and also to entrust to his protection the work of our chapter participants who will choose the new government of the female Congregation founded by Saint Luigi Orione” said Sr Maria Ortensia Turati, Superior general of the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity who led the participants at the general chapter to visit the grave of John Paul II in the crypt under St Peter’s basilica this morning. “We owe this homage to the Pope who encouraged us on our path of ‘unlimited charity’ outlined by Don Orione” the Superior general said.
The congregation started its 10th general chapter on 12 April at the mother house in Rome and it will conclude on 11 May. The delegates, representing more than 800 sisters all over the world, will take a look at past activity and also choose new directing members. “The underlying theme of the meeting is ‘Towards a new face for spirituality, charity, communion in the Church and in the world. Attentive to the groans of the peoples - the Superior told Fides - . We will discuss the new challenges facing our Congregation and how we can contribute to the life of the Church. This 10th chapter coincides with a moment of change in the Church, the death of our beloved Pope John Paul and the election of his successor for whom we pray every day”. (S.L.)
