Moundou (Fides Service)- Also in Chad people are mourning John Paul II. “All our programmes focus on the passing of the Pope. And we have announced that our radio will observe a week of mourning” said media operators of Radio Duji Lokar in Moundou southern Chad, a mainly Christian area, whereas the north is mainly Muslim.
“Over the past few days we have been broadcasting mainly prayers and classical and religious music. Our journalists have been out on the streets talking with men and women. The death of the Pope has had a great impact on the local people” the sources said, adding that also other Christians and even Muslims share the grief of Catholics. “Representatives of other Christians and the Imam of the local Muslim community have paid tributes to John Paul II as a man of deep faith and a man of peace” the operators said.
“On Friday 8 April, the day of the funeral we will let our listeners hear the Pope’s voice once again. We intend to broadcast the address the Holy Father made to the Catholic community during his visit in 1990”. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 6/4/2005 righe 20 parole 200)
