Beirut (Fides Service)- “Lebanese Christians are following with concern and affection this additional trial of the Holy Father and we are all praying for him” sources at the Patriarchate of Antioch of the Maronites told Fides. “In every parish people are praying for his health and that he will make a speedy recovery ” the sources told Fides. “Christians all over Lebanon are united in prayer for the Pope although there have been no official statements. Even from individual Muslims we have received many messages of solidarity with the universal Church at this time of suffering”.
John Paul II has always shown special affection for Lebanon which is living a difficult time at the moment. We recall for example that the Pope called a special Synod for Lebanon in Rome in 1995 and he visited the country to present the local Church with the post-synodal exhortation “New Hope for Lebanon”.
