AMERICA/COLOMBIA - Dengue haemorrhagic fever affects children in Huila

Thursday, 3 September 2015

Huila (Agenzia Fides) - The lack of early diagnosis and family care are among the main causes of dengue hemorrhagic fever, which is causing a high number of deaths among children of the Colombian department of Huila. We are talking about children living in the districts of Neiva, Campoalegre and Florencia. According to local sources, every month about 70 cases of infection are identified in the department, in particular among minors. Last week alone, 5 cases were identified in the University Hospital in Neiva, and it is unknown how many patients are being treated in other health centers as well as those who "take care of themselves". The lack of commitment of the families for the prevention of this viral disease, transmitted very quickly, and can be fatal, aggravates the situation, along with the severe lack of health care.
