ASIA/HOLY LAND - Mass of thanksgiving for the two holy Palestinians

Jerusalem (Agenzia Fides) – His Beatitude Fouad Twal, Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem will preside a Mass of thanksgiving for the canonization of the two Palestinian saints, Saint Mariam Baouardy and Saint Marie Alfonsine Ghattas. The event will be held on Wednesday 26 August 2015 at the Carmel of Bethlehem.
The two nuns were proclaimed saints by Pope Francis and the Church of the Holy Land remarked that "in a region surrounded by war and death, God sent two women saints, in the Year of Consecrated Life".
Sister Maria Alfonsina Danil Ghattas, founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of the Rosary of Jerusalem, lived between 1843 and 1927, and Sister Mary of Jesus Crucified, Discalced Carmelite, lived between 1846 and 1878. They are the first two holy Palestinians of the modern era. In the State of Palestine, Christians are 2% of society. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 21/08/2015)
